WHY Media – In Westgate

This section introduces the use of “Zoom” and “WhatsApp” in Westgate.

Zoom

The Covid Pandemic, which affected the UK at the start of 2020 necessitated wide ranging social changes.
Public gatherings were banned and so Churches were greatly affected.
Churches were permitted to hold times of prayer
but strict spacing had to be observed.
This required changes to the way in which services of worship were conducted.
To circumvent these issues, wide spread adoption of computer technology was enacted.
To begin with, Videos were recorded (See YouTube Section).
When services with spacing restrictions were permitted, many felt ill at ease to attend so the Video Conferencing software “ZOOM” was used at Westgate to give individuals the option to view services live, from their homes or on their phones.
This is still in use today, although it is only used when individuals are physically unable to attend.
Christian services include “Fellowship” and simply viewing a service does not provide that essential aspect of worship.

ZOOM is restricted to those of the fellowship who would normally attend. It is not an alternative church.

WhatsApp

Westgate essentially uses WhatsApp to send messages to the whole of the fellowship if individuals agree to be part. It has proved to be an excellent means for quickly informing the fellowship of items of interest such as the availability of recordings of recent sermons and Bible Studies, items of congratulations, items of concern and items for prayer.
Other smaller groups, such as youth group management, craft groups, and so on, all help to keep the fellowship informed.
